I had almost finished my descent of Beinn a’ Chrùlaiste, and could not wait to get back to the heat of my car, which I could see parked in the lay-by a few hundred feet below me.

I sincerely tried to kid myself, pretending that I had ‘enough in the bag’ for today. I could feel every step I took towards the car, like a a guilty anxiety washing around in the pit of my stomach, though. So I turned around, retraced my knackered steps for a hundred feet or so, slowed my breath and pressed that beautiful orange Hasselblad shutter-release button.
